We have done four meetings in different countries about the Reslag European project. The last one was in Stuttgart (Germany) and the following 5th edition will take place in Grenoble (France) on on 28th february and 1st march at CEA facilities. Each partner of Reslag will present the status of their research and they will explain their next steps.
CEA has already started the preliminary experimental campaigns in the pilot constructed in their facilities in Grenoble, which is devoted to the recovery of high added value metals from the slag.
The main objective of RESLAG project is to valorise the steel slag that is currently not being recycled (right now it is partially landfilled and partially stored in the steel factories) and reuse it as a raw material for 4 innovative applications that contribute to a circular economy in the steel sector with an additional cross-sectorial approach. These applications will be demonstrated at pilot level and led by end-user industries. Altogether open enormously the range of possibilities of taking profit from slag not only for the steel sector but also for many other sectors.

Steel making slag formation is part of the intrinsic process of steel production. The European steel industry generated about 21.8 million tons of slag. About 24 % were still landfilled (2.8 Mtons) or self-stored (2.2 Mtons). From the environmental point of view, the landfill of slags is a significant source of pollution. RESLAG will face this environmental problem by providing 4 eco-innovative solutions for the valorisation of steel slags through 4 pilots development.
